Common Houston Air Conditioner Problems

The most popular problem when it comes to Houston air conditionersis that they are not blowing cool air. There could be exactly seven causes for this to happen. These are the problems that can happen from inside any location:

1. The main problem occurs with the filter being neglected or forgot about. I know a lot of people can change air filters themselves besides the very elderly or disabled. People either forget, delay or they just don’t change their air filter once a month, for various reasons like it is recommended by professionals, to ensure optimum performance of your Houston air conditioning system. When the filter does not get changed it, it tends to clog up with dirt and irritants. The condenser fins on in the inside of the furnace cannot “breathe” which causes the system to freeze up, literally. Always make sure you change your filter and turn off the system only for a few hours to thaw any ice.

One thing people might not know is that the main function of an air conditioning system is to remove hot air inside any location, not to cool the said location or home. When the system removes the hot air, it gets replaced with cold air moving through refrigerant filled condenser fins. An un-informed individual would think an air condition system would turn hot air into cold air. This is simply not the truth.

2. Another normal problem that occurs frequently is that the inside of the condenser fins gets clogged with dirty air and debris from a dirty filter. There are special fins you can purchase to avoid this common problem.

3. Low pressure refrigerant could also play a role in air conditioning problems. The safe pressure level should be 65-70 PSI, so refrigerant gauges will be needed to get an accurate reading from the two larger refrigerant lines. Refrigerant can escape from the outside, slowly over a period of time. That is precisely why air conditioning units must be serviced. Pressure gauges can be purchased, if you desire to check the PSI level yourself, but you can’t increase any refrigerant. It is required by law that you will need to have an EPA license to work with refrigerant. If you need to filler up, with refrigerant than some companies will charge about $18 per pound to install.

4. Let’s say the thermostat is turned down and system is not coming on at all, it could be the condenser fan motor. Wire connections could be severed or may have been loosened by vibration. If this type of vibration occurs, the wires need to be replaced immediately.

Problems found out side the Houston home:

If the unit is on and there is no cool air circulating, the outside unit may not be running.

1. The outside condenser fan may have burnt out. A repairman must service the outside unit for safety reasons. If the inside unit is running and the outside is not then the outside condenser will rise in temperature and shut down until cooled. This can cause seals to warp or even melt. Turn off the power to the unit. The top part of the housing needs to come off with a screw driver. The fan will be attached to the top lid and can be unscrewed. Disconnect the wires and label them to allow proper re-installation. After the wires are connected, turn the power back on and re-screw everything back the way it was. This is one of the easier tasks.

2. Did you know that the Houston air conditioning repair contractor can also go badly in your air condition system? You can find out and determine this by listening and hearing a loud buzzing sound. If you would like to replace this part you must take off the panel located on the rear of the system. The contractor will look like a box with some piston features. You should be able to search and locate the contractor very easily by just following the buzzing noise. Next I would recommend turning off the power and unscrew the mounting brackets and disconnect the wires. Always be diligent and make sure that you label wires accordingly to their lead. When the new contractor is mounted you can connect all wires and replace the panel.

3. The outside of the unit may not be operating at all therefore it may not be getting any power or electricity. To check any power issues, do this by examining the circuit breakers inside the location and also the breaker box outside. The connectors outside the breaker may have been burned and melted together and a new breaker system or wires are connected directly with no breaker connection. The direct connection would be used temporarily until a certified professional repairman can install a breaker correctly and properly.

These are the most common malfunctions with Houston air conditioning units. There are more malfunctions that can occur not mentioned in the list. Every Houston air conditioning, heat pump and furnace unit will have its own set of breakdowns, as do heat pumps and furnaces, but this list at least can give a homeowner a good idea on what to watch out for.

Air conditioner (sometimes meant to as air con or AC) is a major appliance system, or mechanism made to regulate the air temperature and humidity within a certain area (made for heating and cooling according to air properties at the time), mostly running a refrigeration cycle and sometimes utilizing evaporation.
