Avoid These Common Air Conditioning Mistakes I

Hot summers in Houston will compel you to use your air conditioner more than usual, soaring up your summer electric bill. However, Houston air conditioning repair contractor advises you to avoid some simple mistakes so that you can get maximum output in cooling with less energy input.  Let us explore them…

Over-sizing of A/C

Check whether your HVAC contractor has added extra safety factor while load calculation resulting in over sizing of your air conditioning equipment. Bigger size doesn’t necessarily interpret effectiveness. On the contrary, over sized air conditioners fail to generate even temperature or reduce humidity percentage. Their cycles will also not last long enough resulting in inefficient cooling and consumption of more energy.

Neglecting Maintenance of your system

Air conditioning systems are misleadingly self-reliant. Most of the Houston homeowners ignore the critical importance of basic maintenance, which can enhance energy efficiency, overall performance and increase the life of your air conditioning unit. Maintenance tasks include cleaning of filters, evaporator coil, drain channels and checking insulation.

After every two months, you need to clean or replace filters. This frequency of checking filters should be more often if you find your filters catching much more dirt and getting clogged early than expected. Also check and clean the evaporator coil once a year. Run a stiff wire through the air conditioner’s drain channels regularly, and check the window seals around room air conditioners each year.

In appropriate positioning of system

It may seem convenient to put air conditioners in an unused spot on the southwest side of the house. However, such placement will make the unit work too hard. Instead, install the air conditioner in a shady spot on the east or north side of the house, where it will receive less direct sunlight.
